The Peer Helpers at Castlen Elementary recently collected toiletries to donate to a local homeless shelter, Ryan's Refuge. Castlen's first-graders, in particular, rose to the challenge, donating 232 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste! Also included in the donations were 48 bottles of body wash, 43 bottles of shampoo/conditioner, 140 deodorant sticks, and 23 bars of soap. Way to go, Cubs! #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Fifth-grader Lacie Wilson is president of Castlen Elementary's student council. Among her proposals has been creating incentives for the classes with the best attendance. She plays volleyball and is part of Castlen's archery team. She's a National Elementary Honor Society member and is enjoying the lessons she's learning in fifth grade, particularly in math and history. "They teach us so much we're going to need to know for life," she said. #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress
